Hip Hop Dance Conservatory, New York City
Although not a Hip hop college, the Hip Hop Dance Conservatory (HDC) in New York City deserves mention when discussing the study of hip hop. All elements of hip hop dance are covered at the conservatory. HDC is a non-profit organization and is currently the only dance conservatory dedicated to hip hop in the world. The Conservatory was founded by Safi A. Thomas who is also the Artistic Director. This is one of the top hip hop dance colleges around.
Department of Dance, Chapman University
One of California’s most prominent private universities, Chapman University was established in 1861 and its scenic campus sits at the center of Orange County. Although not a dedicated hip hop college, the College of Performing Arts is one of the University’s seven schools and colleges of Chapman. The University has an enrollment of over 6,000 students and has been included as one of the nation’s top universities by the Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
Palomar Performing Arts at Palomar College
Palomar Performing Arts at Palomar College in San Marcos, just north of San Diego, links past traditions with future possibilities by honoring all forms of dance as meaningful cultural forms and expressions of art while maintaining high academic standards. Course offerings consist of a variety of dance styles including ballet, hip-hop, ballroom dance, and Afro-Cuban/Brazilian dance, choreography and improvisation. Nationally known artists make up the full and part time faculty.

De Anza College Dance and Theater Department
The Dance and Theater Department at De Anza College offers a single course on Theory and Technique of Hip Hop. Known for its dynamic student activities department, the college was founded in 1967 and is located on 112 acres in Cupertino, California near the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Students planning to continue at the Bachelor level should note that De Anza College ranks top first or second in the state due to the total number of students who transfer to CSU or one of ten campuses of University of California.
